Poof is made by Jason Muse. It is built to work entirely on your own devices. This page explains what Poof looks at, what it keeps, and the few things that ever leave your device.
The short version
- Poof never uploads your screenshots, photos or AI chat history.
- There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in Poof.
- The only things sent anywhere are what's needed to sell Poof Pro and check that you have it.
Poof for Windows and Mac
What it reads on your computer
- Image files in your screenshot folders: the system's screenshots folder and any folder you add.
- The history that AI coding tools keep on your computer (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and Windsurf), to recognise screenshots you pasted into them.
What it keeps on your computer
Small thumbnails of your screenshots, 32×32 grayscale fingerprints used for matching, your settings, your kept list and your
license details. They're stored in Poof's own folder (%APPDATA%\Poof on Windows,
~/Library/Application Support/Poof on Mac), which you can delete at any time.
What leaves your computer
When you activate Poof Pro, Poof sends your license key and your computer's name to Lemon Squeezy, our payment provider, so you can see which computers use your key. It re-checks the key every few days. Nothing else is sent.
When you buy Poof Pro, checkout happens on Lemon Squeezy's website. They process your payment and send us your name, email address and order details so we can provide your license and support. Their own privacy policy covers the payment.
Poof for iPhone and Android
- Photos: Poof reads your photo library on your phone to find screenshots and show them to you. Your photos never leave your phone. Deleting always goes through your phone's own confirmation; on iPhone, deleted screenshots stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
- Kept on your phone: your kept list, your settings and how many screenshots you've poofed.
- Purchases: Apple or Google handle payment. Poof uses RevenueCat to check whether you have Pro. RevenueCat receives an anonymous ID created on your phone, your Poof purchase history, and basic technical details such as app version, system version and country. Poof never sends them your name, email or photos.
Children
Poof is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices
You can turn off Poof's photo access in your phone's settings, delete Poof's data on your computer, or deactivate your license in Settings → Poof Pro. To have your purchase details deleted, email us.
